Frequently Asked Questions

Do you guarantee all your works for authenticity?

Tokaido Arts has been providing collectors, dealers, and museums from around the world with Japanese woodblock prints and fine Asian art for fifty years. All sales are guaranteed as described and letters of authenticity can be provided on request.

I was in your gallery and saw a piece I would like to purchase. Can you take orders over the phone or email?

Certainly! If you saw a woodblock print in our gallery and want to purchase it, please contact us to reserve it and we can process payment using online invoicing via PayPal, which is our preferred online processing provider. No PayPal account is needed to pay this way.

Do you have works by a specific artist or of a specific image?

Please contact us as we may have works available in our collection not featured on our website or in our newsletter. We also will save your request and will contact you should your specially requested work become available at a later time.

A work being offered in your online gallery is SOLD OUT or RESERVED. Can you help find another copy?

Yes, we can and often do! If you see a work that is sold out or on reserve, please contact us and we will make note your request. If we find another copy of the work (we usually are!), we will contact you and offer it to you for sale privately. There is NO obligation to purchase!

When is your San Francisco gallery open?

Our gallery in San Francisco’s historic Japan Center is open Wednesday — Saturday, 12:00pm—6:00pm, and on Sunday from 11:00am—5:00pm. We can also make appointments for private showings Wednesdays through Fridays. Just email or call us one day ahead to schedule!

I would like to make an appointment. How do I do this?

We will gladly take appointments at our San Francisco gallery for private viewings or viewing specially requested pieces. Contact us by phone or email to schedule.

We Buy Prints & Collections

I have some art I would like to sell. Do you buy prints/collections?

Yes, Tokaido Arts purchases Japanese woodblock prints and other fine Asian arts from private collections and estates. To expedite this, please send us a note along with photos of your items (low resolution please) to info (at) tokaidoarts.com. Following a review of the photos, we will determine if we are able to acquire your pieces and then ask you to bring them in to our gallery for final assessment and purchase. You can also contact us for further details.

Do you provide appraisals?

We specialize in fine Japanese woodblock prints, so can only appraise these types of works. For a fee, we can provide written appraisals for estate planning, insurance, and other purposes. For the most accurate appraisal, works must be viewed and appraised in person.

Shipping

Do you ship your works?

Yes, Tokaido Arts ships to anywhere in the world and we take great care in packing shipped works, framed or unframed, to ensure you receive your orders safely. Because of the risk of damage, we can only ship framed prints using UV-grade acrylic and to a maximum size of 16” X 24” (nominal). Additional shipping charges applied at checkout or during invoicing. Sorry, we cannot shipped framed works internationally. Read more about our shipping policy here.

How long does it take to receive my order?

We will ship your order out as soon as possible. Please allow 2-5 business days to pack and ship your order. We usually send off packages on Monday or Tuesday. You will receive a notification when a tracking number is generated. Depending on your location you should receive your purchase 1-2 weeks after order.

If you would like us to delay shipment (e.g. you are traveling, time orders for gifts), please contact us and we will accommodate as needed.

Can I order online and pickup locally?

Yes, just select local pickup when checking out and come by our San Francisco gallery during opening hours.
