Utagawa Yoshitora, "Kusunoki at the Siege of Chihaya"
Pickup currently unavailable
In this marvelously chaotic triptych by Yoshitora, the legendary warrior Kusunoki Masahige (shown on horseback in the right panel) is charged with defending Chihaya Castle in Asakasa from the flanking forces of the Kamakura in the 13th century. In the background is Chihaya Castle and the battle takes place at the foot of a raging waterfall that is beautifully rendered.
