    Located in Saitama Prefecture north of Tokyo, this rare first-edition printing shows the Arakawa River cutting through the mountainous area surrounding Chichibu and Minano. The warmth of the pink from the setting sun is contrasted beautifully throughout the shadows throughout the composition. A marvelous design!

    Hasui Kawase (1883-1957) is one of Japan's most important artists to emerge from the shin-hanga era. His prints are recognized throughout the world, with many of his woodblock prints elevating to icons of art and design.
