How to Order a Custom Frame

To order a frame with your artwork, select the frame you would like and the options for finish and matting. When ordering multiple works, in the "Special Instructions" field, please specify which frame for each artwork. We will then contact you to confirm order details. For special requests, we will customize any project to your specifications (e.g. sizing, glazing)! Just contact us and we will work with you on all framing projects. Additional charges may be applied (billed separately).

Terms and Conditions: All custom frame orders are final. Additional packing and insured shipping charges will be applied to each frame at checkout.

Framing & Design

Tokaido Arts offers a limited selection of custom matting and frames tailored specifically for presenting and preserving your fine Japanese woodblock prints. We build to your exact specifications and can also provide moulding and dimension recommendations for all our prints.

Tokaido Arts specializes in fine Japanese woodblock prints and Asian art, so we do not offer the hundreds of matting and framing options you would find in a traditional custom frame shop. While our options are limited, our styling is fine tuned to presenting your works simply and elegantly.

All prints are mounted and matted using conservation-grade mat board and acid-free materials, and glazed with UV-conservation glass or UV-acrylic. We also offer museum-grade glass and acrylic. Framing projects require at least 2-4 weeks to complete. We will contact you with an estimated time for pickup/delivery.

Complimentary Matting

All of works available for sale in our San Francisco gallery or online come with complimentary matting! If you prefer to do your own matting, just let us know and we will fulfill the order without matting. Additional shipping charges may apply for works matted larger than 16" x 24".

Shipping of Framed Works

All framed works are carefully packaged and shipped insured using common carriers. Note that framed works can ONLY be shipped with UV-grade acrylic. Sorry no international shipments for framed works. For frames glazed with UV glass, local pickup is available.

Our classic wood frames are custom crafted of hand-polished walnut and provides a traditional, yet contemporary, display for Japanese woodblock prints. We offer moulding sizes of 1/2” to 3/4”. Frames from this collection work best with ukiyo-e, Meiji, and shin-hanga period prints.
