Shin-Hanga

Takahashi Hiroaki (Shotei), "Fireworks at Ryogoku"
Pickup currently unavailable
This crepe woodblock print shows fireworks at the Ryogoku Bridge in Tokyo. Chirimen-gami-e (or crepe) woodblock prints are a rare variant popularized from the 19th century and were produced for special occasions. The tight crinkling of the paper makes the works denser in feel and the colors appear more vibrant. This work is a rare chirimen-gami-e variant of a popular Shotei design.
