The fortifications along Hakata Bay in northwest Fukuoka City in Fukuoka Prefecture once protected the island from Mongol invaders and dates back to the 13th century. The fortification is said to have caused the Mongol ships to crash and catch fire throughout the Bay. The title of this work draws from that episode. This first-edition printing comes from a collection of Japan Scenery Prints issued in 6 sets of 5 prints each by various artists published by Nakajima Jutaro. Tsukishi was an ancient province and is located in Fukuoka Prefecture.
