A visitor gazes up at a full moon illuminating the temple grounds on a spring evening at Kiyomizu Temple. One of Suizan’s most recognizable designs, the bokashi printing in the deep blue night sky is expertly printed and contrasts wonderfully with the temple’s shadows. One of eight landscapes by Suizan as part of his series, “New Selection of Noted Places in Kyoto." From a first-edition printing.

Series: New Selection of Noted Places in Kyoto (First Series)

    Publisher: Sato Shotaro

    Frame Shown: 16" x 24” x 1/2”, Classic Wood, Ebony

Miki Suizan (1887-1957) was an accomplished painter of bijin-ga (beautiful women). He created only fourteen woodblock prints in his lifetime as part of a two-part series, “New Selection of Noted Places in Kyoto.” The first series consisted of landscapes, while the second were bijin-ga portraits.
