Shin-Hanga

Tsuchiya Koitsu, "Nio Gate, Asakusa"
Pickup currently unavailable
An exceptionally scarce first-edition woodblock print by Tsuchiya Koitsu depicting the celebrated Nio Gate at Tokyo’s Asakusa Kannon Temple. In later postwar variants and re-carved editions, many of the figures were eliminated, the gate columns became noticeably narrower, and the overall composition was reduced in scale. Seldom seen in this edition, this work was acquired from a prominent Japanese collection of shin-hanga.
