Located in Kyoto, Nanzenji was established in the 13th century by Zen Buddhists. Here, the temple is shown from the inside looking out. Although awash in a dark and vivid blue, the purple colors of the pillars come through beautifully.

Lilian May Miller (1895-1943) was born in Japan to American diplomats where she learned the traditional craft of Japanese woodblock printing. While eventually moving back to the United States, over the course of her short life, Miller would travel regularly and create artworks from her travels.
