The fog enveloping San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge is expertly printed to showcase one of California's most iconic landmarks. A lone fishing boat makes its way West into the Pacific Ocean. One of the very few Japanese woodblock prints depicting San Francisco, this scarce woodblock print by Tsuruoka Kakunen is one of only four woodblock prints produced during his lifetime.

Tsuruoka Kakunen (1892-1977) immigrated to the United States in the early 20th century where he established himself as an artist and art dealer in San Francisco. During WWII, Kakunen was interned at Poston in Utah. Upon returning, he continued to paint and deal in Japanese artworks in San Francisco.
