Shin-Hanga
Hasui Kawase, "Matsuyama Castle"
Pickup currently unavailable
Built in the early 1600s, Matsuyama Castle in Ehime Prefecture was constructed for the daimyo of the region after Japan's consolidation by the Tokugawa Shogunate. In this beautiful night scene by Hasui, we are transported into the castle grounds during a spring evening. A cherry tree blossoms in the background while the castle's interior walls flank two visitors on an evening walk. Exquisitely detailed and printed, this piece is a later edition printed from the original woodblocks.
