Located in the Indian State of Maharashtra, the Ellora Caves comprise a complex of rock-cut caves dating to the 6th century. The Kailasa Temple at Ellora is the largest of the Hindu temples cut from the mountain and dates to the 8th century. The view from inside the temple grounds is intricately carved and printed masterfully. This rare woodblock print is part of Hiroshi Yoshida's series of works documenting his travels in India and Southeast Asia.

Hiroshi Yoshida (1876-1950) is regarded as one of the most important shin-hanga period artists and often carved and printed his own works. His landscapes of Japan are known throughout the world, as are his prints of other countries such as Europe, the United States, and South Asia.
