Shin-Hanga
Shoda Koho, "Lake Biwa"
Pickup currently unavailable
Originally produced in c. 1930s, the night scene prints of Hasegawa/Nishinomiya are atmospheric and unburdened by large amounts of color. Dominated by palettes of blue and black, the simplicity of the designs are striking. In this woodblock print, a couple sets off on a boat in Lake Biwa on a clear evening. The glow of the lantern on the boat and in the distance is contrasted beautifully with the dark colors.
