Shin-Hanga
Shoda Koho, " Lake Biwa"
Pickup currently unavailable
Published starting in the 1910s, the night scene prints of Hasegawa/Nishinomiya are atmospheric and unburdened by large amounts of color. Dominated by palettes of blue and black, the simplicity of the designs are striking.
In this woodblock print by Shoda Koho, a couple sets off on a boat in Lake Biwa on a clear evening. The glow of the lantern on the boat and in the distance is contrasted beautifully with the dark colors and is luminescent. An expertly printed early edition with exceptional colors throughout.
