This very rare woodblock print by Tsuchiya Koitsu shows a village and Shinto shrine perched on the shores near the famed Meoto Iwa (Couple Stones) at Futamigaura on Kyushu. Long a symbol of marriage, the stones are joined together by ropes made of rice straw and is important symbol of Shinto Japan. A marvelous design amplified by the extensive use of bokashi throughout.
