Utagawa (Ando) Hiroshige, "Station 20: Mariko"

Located in Shizuoka Prefecture, Mariko is the twentieth station of the Tokaido road connecting Kyoto to Edo (modern-day Tokyo). In this wonderful composition, we see travelers coming and going from a stand selling Japanese yam soup.  The print is from Hiroshige's Hoiedo edition of his famous “53 Stations of the Tokaido" series of woodblock prints.
