Shin-Hanga
Yoshimoto Gesso, "Moon and Cherry Tree"
Pickup currently unavailable
In addition to the night scene prints of Hasegawa/Nishinomiya produced starting in the 1910s, the publisher also issued a large set of tanzaku prints by Yoshimoto Gesso and Shoda Koho. Long and narrow, the works create a challenge for the artists who must work with a limited vertical space for their compositions.
In this work by Yoshimoto Gesso, a large full moon illuminates the water while the branches of a blossoming cherry tree cuts through the composition.
