Shin-Hanga
Arai Yoshimune, "Suma Beach"
Pickup currently unavailable
Published starting in the 1910s, the night scene prints of Hasegawa/Nishinomiya are atmospheric and unburdened by large amounts of color. Dominated by palettes of blue and black, the simplicity of the designs are striking.
In this design, Suma Beach in Kobe is shown awash in the light of a full moon with a pine looming in the foreground. Two fisherman are shown working in what appears to be a warm evening. An early edition printing with publisher marks on verso.
