Hasui Kawase, "Meiji-jingu, Iris Garden"

Still thriving today, the garden at Meiji Garden in Yoyogi Park in Tokyo's Shibuya ward is home to large field of irises. This vibrant work captures the iris garden in full bloom. This work is a later edition printing from the original woodblocks.

Hasui Kawase (1883-1957) is one of Japan's most important artists to emerge from the shin-hanga era. His prints are recognized throughout the world, with many of his woodblock prints elevating to icons of art and design.
