Hasui Kawase, "Senju Waterfall, Akame"

Located east of Osaka, the waterfalls at Akame exemplify the natural wonders found throughout Japan. Here the Senju waterfall is shown under a canopy of fall colored leaves. This scarce woodblock print comes from a later edition printing from the original woodblocks.

Hasui Kawase (1883-1957) is one of Japan's most important artists to emerge from the shin-hanga era. His prints are recognized throughout the world, with many of his woodblock prints elevating to icons of art and design.
