Kyoto's Heian Shrine was constructed as a commemoration to the founding of Kyoto in 1894 and was built in the style of the Heian-period. Hasui's composition shows two visitors at the shrine during a snowstorm. The rich details and vibrant colors contrasts beautifully with the quiet solitude of the in the composition. An rare, early edition of a very scarce piece by the great Hasui Kawase.
