Situated in Tokyo, the Nezu Shrine is one of Japan’s oldest Shinto shrines. In this beautiful composition by Hasui Kawase, two visitors are greeted on a snowy day as they approach the shrine’s romon (tower gate). The central hall of Nezu Shrine is shown in the background.

Hasui Kawase (1883-1957) is one of Japan’s most important artists to emerge from the shin-hanga era. His prints are recognized throughout the world, with many of his woodblock prints elevating to icons of art and design.
