    Evening visitors to the Nigatsudo Temple in Nara take a break underneath the dimly lit lanterns. The darkness is masterfully printed to give the composition a romantic aura. Printed by Hiroshi Yoshida himself (jizuri seal), the print is also signed in both pencil and brush by the artist.

    Hiroshi Yoshida (1876-1950) is regarded as one of the most important shin-hanga period artists and often carved and printed his own works. His landscapes of Japan are known throughout the world, as are his prints of other countries such as Europe, the United States, and South Asia.
