Ishikawa Toraji, "Mount Aso"
Pickup currently unavailable
From a series of three entitled "View of Mt. Aso from Daikanha," Mt. Aso is Japan's most active volcano and is located Kyushu Island. Here, Mt. Aso is seen from atop a hillside with its foothills blanketed in low-lying clouds. The contrasting dark color of the mountain and colorful verdant hill makes for a lovely composition.

Ishikawa Toraji (1875-1964) drew inspiration from Western color and composition in many of his woodblock prints while maintaining many traditional ukiyo-e elements in his technique. He is known for his "Ten Types of Female Nudes," which was very controversial when first published in the 1935.
