Ito Takashi, "Ferry at Odai, Mie"

Odai sits along the Miya River in Mie Prefecture southeast of Osaka. Here, a woman is tending to her boat while a fire belches out a thick cloud of smoke. Beautifully contrasting colors showing the town of Odai off in the distance.

Ito Takashi (1894-1982) was not a prolific artist, but his association with Watanabe Shozaburo makes him one of the more notable artists of the shin-hanga period. His works are evocative of the romanticism at the height of shin-hanga.
