Shin-Hanga
Ito Takashi, "View of Fuji from Nihondaira"
Pickup currently unavailable
While Mount Fuji exerts its imposing presence in this composition by Ito Takasahi, the neat rows of tea shrubs are also a focus of this piece. The time is late Fall season, and off in the distance is the port town of Nihondaira on the coast outside of Shizuoka. Dense with buildings and a fleet of ships moored offshore, Nihondaira is famous for its panoramic view of Mount Fuji. A rarely seen woodblock print by Ito Takashi.

Ito Takashi (1894-1982) was not a prolific artist, but his association with Watanabe Shozaburo makes him one of the more notable artists of the shin-hanga period. His works are evocative of the romanticism at the height of shin-hanga.
