The Tokeji Shrine in Kamakura was built in the 13th century and is part of the Rinzai sect of Zen Buddhism. The hydrangeas in this design are in full bloom and the gate welcomes visitors to Tokeji. Beautiful contrasting colors makes this woodblock print a standout design by Ohtsu.

Kazuyuki Ohtsu (1935 - ) worked with the great 20th century printmaker Kiyoshi Saito for forty years. Following Saito's death in 1997, Ohtsu began his journey as an artist and has made his mark as one of today's most iconic artists in the woodblock print genre.
