In this rare and early work by Lilian Miller, Father Kim poses on his mule against an expansive view of a sea and mountains in the background. The colors of this Edition A variant show a yellow sky, while Edition B is printed with a blue sky and shadows on the figure.

Lilian May Miller (1895-1943) was born in Japan to American diplomats where she learned the traditional craft of Japanese woodblock printing. While eventually moving back to the United States, over the course of her short life, Miller would travel regularly and create artworks from her travels.
