An exquisite portrait of a woman from Celebes (Sulawesi) in local dress observing two birds of paradise perched on a tree trunk. A very early impression from the first edition of a rare and popular design by Jacoulet. The colors in the later editions are brighter and less nuanced than the example seen here.
