Rei Morimura, "Sugimoto Temple"

Built in the 8th century, Sugimoto Temple in Kamakura is noted for its moss-covered stairs flanked by banners as visitors make their way to the main temple. In this early design by Morimura, the abstract design of the trees frame the stairs and help draw the viewer in to the composition.
