Shin-Hanga
Shoda Koho, " Egret in Rain"
Pickup currently unavailable
In addition to the night scene prints of Hasegawa/Nishinomiya produced starting in the 1910s, the publisher also issued a large set of tanzaku prints by Yoshimoto Gesso and Shoda Koho. Long and narrow, the works create a challenge for the artists who must work with a limited vertical space for their compositions.
Here Shoda Koho does a wonderful job showing an egret taking shelter on a tree during a rain shower. Simple yet beautifully printed and composed.
