Set against a backdrop of a snowstorm, three Kabuki actors in pose in elaborate costumes. The actors are Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as Rashoman no Saburo (left), Sawamura Tanosuke III as Imaushiwaka no Denji (middle), and Nakamura Shikan IV as Kijin Monbei (right). A marvelously designed triptych.

Toyohara Kunichika (1835-1900) was a prolific woodblock print artist whose works portraying kabuki plays and actors are noted for their use of rich, deep colors.
