    Tsuchiya Koitsu, "Peacock"

    $0.00

A single peacock stands in elegant, poised stillness among blooming chrysanthemums in this finely carved and printed woodblock print by Tsuchiya Koitsu. The composition is executed with exceptional refinement, with attention to the texture and patterns of the peacock. This work is considered exceedingly rare, with no later edition impressions known to exist, and was acquired from a prominent Japanese collection of shin-hanga. It bears the embossed seal of Doi Sadaichi in the lower left.

    Date: 1934
    Size: Oban
    First-edition (Ikeda/Goto embossed seal)
    Publisher: Doi Sadaichi
Condition: Light toning top edge, otherwise fine/excellent color and condition

Tsuchiya Koitsu (1870-1949) was a student of Kobayashi Kiyochika whose landscape prints are widely regarded and coveted by collectors today.
