A rare work by Japanese/American artist Tsuruoka Kakunen showing a quaint setting in Carmel, California. The scene shows a cottage located in one of Kakunen's most important patrons after immigrating to the United States. One of four woodblock prints by Kakunen published in Japan by Watanabe Shozaburo in a very limited edition.

Tsuruoka Kakunen (1892-1977) immigrated to the United States in the early 20th century where he established himself as an artist and art dealer in San Francisco. During WWII, Kakunen was interned at Poston in Utah. Upon returning, he continued to paint and deal in Japanese artworks in San Francisco.
