The rotunda across the street from San Francisco's City Hall is shown in the early evening. One of the very few Japanese woodblock prints depicting San Francisco, this rare print by Kakunen is a wonderful peak into pre-war San Francisco.

Tsuruoka Kakunen (1892-1977) immigrated to the United States in the early 20th century where he established himself as an artist and art dealer in San Francisco. During WWII, Kakunen was interned at Poston in Utah. Upon returning, he continued to paint and deal in Japanese artworks in San Francisco.
