Tsuchiyama Station, in Shiga Prefecture, lies at the edge of the densely forested Suzuka Mountains. Today, the area is renowned as an important tea-producing region of Japan. Here, a small procession of travelers makes its way along the riverbank, while in the background, partially shrouded by the trees, stands a Shinto shrine.

Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) is the most important Japanese artist to emerge from Edo period ukiyo-e.
